My Uncle Phil’s toy San Francisco trolley is very important in my life. My Uncle Phil passed away at age thirty-seven because of liver disease. When my mom was rummaging through his house for his most prized possessions she found his old San Francisco trolley. She then brought it home for me and my brother to cherish forever. It’s dark green with miniature business people inside. The paint is starting to chip and the metal is rusting. Every time I look at the trolley I feel like everything has fallen into place.
The dice game is an Urbanski family tradition. Every Christmas, we gather around the kitchen table, and put our gifts on the rustic wood. The gifts have to have a joke to them or the game has not point. We then write number one to twenty and pick a number. We can either pick or steal. One year my brother got a hot dog maker. While we are playing the game I can smell the thick steak marinating in tart soy sauce and sweet brown sugar. In the oven are steaming hot steak fries about ready to get sprinkled with a rain of kosher salt. Playing the dice game is a time when my family can get together and catch up.
My bible is a strong part of my religion. When I turned eight my Nana and Papa decided to give me a bible. They gave me a bible so I could pray a true prayer. Now my bible is one of my most prized possessions. It is bright white with letters that say Holy Bible. It sits on my tall bookshelf wedged in between Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone and Twilight.
My teddy bear that says the prayer was given to me when I was one. For my first birthday the thing I cherished most was the teddy bear that says a prayer. It is blue with a gold stomach. Of you press his stomach he says the bedtime prayer. Although it’s starting to fall apart and the words a muffled I still love it. It is somewhere in my basement storage room and sometime when I trip over the bag I can hear the melodious voice of the teddy bear.
My rosary was given to me for my first communion. My first communion was two weeks after I turned eight. During the gift opening my mom gave me a beautiful gold rosary. It is bright gold and when I put it on I get a chill as it lays against the back of my neck. It lies in my baby pink heart jewelry box next to my ladybug pin. My rosary will stay in my heart forever.
